Grant Hallowell

Grant has worked in the financial services sector for more than two decades having started his career at KPMG Financial Services in 2000. His KPMG career included a year working in its Financial Services division in London. Grant qualified as a Chartered Accountant during this period and always had a driving passion for managing deliverables and ensuring successful execution of projects and investigations. During Grant’s 3-year training contract at the KPMG Financial Services and Advisory Group, he was part of a team that assisted business units that required ‘hand holding’ and/or strategic advice in order to optimise processes. He went on to assist KPMG London Financial Services Group for a 1-year period to perform the same managerial functions at an international level.

From an early stage in his career, Grant found his niche in programme management, taking on multifaceted projects in the roles in which he was employed. Being a competitive self-starter with strong management skills, he had the ability to drive these projects to completion. In 2004, after returning from London, he went on to head up the IFRS Advisory and Specialised Projects division at Nedbank where multifaceted and strategic projects became the order of the day.  These projects included the implementation of derivative modelling and reporting across the greater Nedbank Group.  This experience allowed him to acquire industry knowledge across the banking spectrum in programme management, IAS and IFRS, investment banking, corporate finance, credit, treasury, and balance sheet management.

Grant managed the Nedbank Chartered Accountant training programme where he took on the role of Training Officer and was credited with regaining Nedbank’s position in the top three training institutions in South Africa.  Grant’s final project at Nedbank was the implementation of SAP across the organisation with direct responsibility for the finance implementation.  When Grant left, he had a reputation for successfully implementing projects regardless of the complexity.

Grant’s entrepreneurial flair and his passion for strategic execution and delivery led him to establish Engaged Business Consultants in 2014. This dynamic company has a multi-disciplinary enablement attitude, giving it the ability to transition through clients’ varying requirements. The company prides itself in offering specialized financial services advice and project management to ensure that a strategic and solutions-driven result is achieved in a cost-effective and time conscious manner.  The company has acquired a client base that includes Nedbank, SAB, Liberty, Shoprite, Capitec and ABSA.

In 2016 Grant co-founded Engaged Business Turnaround, a business rescue and turnaround outfit with a value proposition aimed at assuring stakeholders that the business in question is given the best possible chance of success under the circumstances, that stakeholders’ exposures are managed in their best interests, and that the quality and credibility of the feedback to stakeholders allows for the most educated level of decision making.

Grant is a registered Chartered Accountant of South Africa and a member of SAICA and the Turnaround Management Association.
