The Port of Cape Town, which has suffered shipping delays, endemic inefficiencies and equipment failures, is showing encouraging signs of improvements in the operational performance. This comes amid the current deciduous fruit harvesting season, with the citrus fruit industry up next. According to Minister Gordhan, container moves have increased from ±700 a day in Dec to 1,238 in Feb. “The immediate target is to ramp up to 1,500 container moves per day, with an aspiration to improve further to 1,700 per day.”
