Amid state bungling, resilient South African firms stand tall
SA comes in at 21 of 31 countries on Swiss Re Institute’s economic resilience index. While trailing developed countries, SA outperforms nearly all other major emerging markets, plus the likes of Spain, Italy and Greece. Having survived crippling blackouts, the ANC’s pathological municipal ineptitude and levels of crime you’d only expect during a civil war, the corporate sector is battle-hardened in a way other countries can’t even begin to imagine.
